Abeyta Pond is located in the village of Dona Ana and is scheduled to be completed in December of 2024. The pond’s primary function will be to regulate water flow within the region by accepting water discharge from two upstream dams. This controlled discharge will then be channeled into the existing infrastructure of the Elephant Butte Irrigation District (EBID).
A key aspect of the pond’s construction was the use of shotcrete, a sprayed concrete application, to create a durable and watertight structure. To further enhance the pond’s impermeability and longevity, a specialized water repellent was applied to the shotcrete layer.
